Winter 2021 Bulletin
The Lower Hill District
News & Updates
Winter 2021
We wish you and your family a very happy holidays with this final Lower Hill news bulletin for 2021.

After the FNB Financial Center groundbreaking in September, the bulldozers and site development team arrived on the project site and construction work began. What had long been a surface parking lot is giving way to new opportunities, investment and reinvestment in the Lower Hill District. As the dirt piles up, the excitement too builds for a construction effort that will be led by one of the most inclusive collection of contractors in the history of Pittsburgh. Over two dozen Black and Women-Owned businesses already have commitments to help build the FNB Financial Center and many more contracts are coming in the months ahead.

Working closely with community partners, we've helped cut ribbon after ribbon with the opening of the First Source Center in May, the newly renovated Centre Ave YMCA, Ammon Recreation Center's new Rec2Tech hub and the Frankie Mae Pace Park above I-579. Our partners were delighted to help with the needed gap funding for the project to redevelop the former Hamm's Barbershop at Centre Ave. and Kirkpatrick St. - a catalytic project led by Historic Hill District's own Thomas Boyd Sr. to "Big Tom's Barbershop."

We helped youth and families get vaccinated from the scourge of COVID-19, are celebrating workforce wins, started our journey with the Pittsburgh Public Schools Career and Technical Education Program and supported the successful training efforts for dozens seeking family-sustaining career paths in construction, facilities management and banking.

Each grand opening, groundbreaking and training session is another promise delivered, another wish fulfilled for the Historic Hill District and the Lower Hill Redevelopment project.

Let's look back at this fantastic finish to an eventful and productive 2021 and look forward to even better days ahead in 2022!
